Helping Hands For Paws -- Friday April 20th, 2007

Style Goes to the Dogs as BarkWear Raises Money to Benefit the Jacksonville Humane Society BarkWear, a Jacksonville-based clothing company, will donate shirts from its private label to area retailers and rescue groups as part of its Helping Hands for Paws benefit for the Jacksonville Humane Society. JACKSONVILLE, FL April 20—Jacksonville residents can sport their style while also supporting a good cause as BarkWear hosts its Helping Hands for Paws fund-raising event through June 24. As part of the event, BarkWear is teaming up with area retailers and rescue groups to raise money for the Jacksonville Humane Society, which was recently destroyed by fire. In response to the Humane Society’s urgent need for help from the community, BarkWear has commissioned a special shirt with the message “Rescued pets leave paw prints on your heart” and is donating these shirts to area business. Retailers are encouraged to resell the shirts for $15, with proceeds benefiting the rebuilding efforts of the Humane Society. When Kevin Nichols and Mary Mathis of BarkWear learned that the Jacksonville Humane Society was destroyed by fire, they were determined to answer the call for help. “The Humane Society has been there for the community for years,” said Mathis. “It’s now time for the community to be there for the Humane Society.” Interest in the Helping Hands for Paws event has been high. In the first day of soliciting area businesses, BarkWear’s representatives have formed relationships with several prominent retailers, including Max’s Pet Emporium and Bark Avenue Pet Boutique, as well as numerous animal rescue groups. In addition, The Jacksonville Humane Society Executive Director, Leona Sheddon, has personally endorsed BarkWear’s “Rescued pets leave paw prints on your heart” shirt. While interest in the Helping Hands for Paws fund-raising event has been encouraging, Nichols and Mathis are working tirelessly extend partnerships with as many area businesses as possible.
